The Factions

Star Empire
Brotherhood
The United Federation of Planets is an alliance of approximately 150 planetary governments and colonies, united together for mutual exploratory, scientific, cultural and defensive endeavors. Founded in the year 2161, the Federation includes a diverse collection of races, including Terrans (humans) and Vulcans.
The Colonial Operations division of Starfleet, the military arm of the Federation, allows the construction of outposts and colonies on new worlds, as well as setting up defensive structures on existing ones. Outfitted with a wide array of technologies, Federation colonial systems are still primarily geared towards scientific and exploration, with many structures and units offering passive defense.
With the appearance of the Tabula Rasa and its wealth of mineral rich worlds, the Federation quickly realizes that a possible upheaval in the balance of power is imminent. Dispatching long range probes into the outer systems, they soon detect a transmission, a cry from help from a small ice moon...
- Starting date of colonization: 8987.8
- First world encountered: Karazar system, Karazin (icy, snow covered planet)
- First alien race encountered: Taubat
- Colony program: discoveries and explorations
- General characteristic: explorers, scientists, researchers, formidable opponents in battle
- General tactics: recon of enemy base with scout then 3~4-tank attacks and 3-photon tank attacks, after that, again: 3~4-tank attacks and 3-photon tank attacks
An enigmatic offshoot of the Vulcan race, now residing on the planets Romulan and Remus. The ancient Romulans left Vulcan a millennium ago, in a time of great rebellion against logic and pacifism. As a people, they are a study in dramatic contrast, capable of tenderness and extreme violence. They are also characterized with great curiosity, and a level of self-confidence that borders on arrogance.
Romulan mentality extends to all corners of their empire, including the Colonial Battalions of the Senate. While not as strictly pacifist as the Federation, and not as deliberately offensive as the Klingons, the Romulan ground forces place surveillance and study over direct assault. As a result, many colonial systems are based on infiltration and espionage, with cloaking systems playing an integral role in most planet-based affairs.
Having just left a brief alliance with the Klingon Empire, during which many technologies were traded, the Romulan Star Empire is preparing to reaffirm its position of superiority in the galaxy, and since they are responsible for the sub-space rupture that brought forth the Tabula Rasa systems, they claim sovereign rights to the new worlds and dispatch large numbers of colony teams to determine the tactical advantage of the systems.
- Starting date of colonization: 8988.4
- First world encountered: Manuka system, Sakuntula (type 6, red, dust planet)
- First alien race encountered: Taubat, Metar
- Colony program: entire Tabula Rasa colonization
- General characteristic: researchers, cunning conquerors
- General tactics: recon of enemy base using scout then 3~4-tank attacks and 3-photon tank attacks, after that, again: 3~4-tank attacks and 3-photon tank attacks, sometimes also 3-cloaking tank attacks
Kahless the Unforgettable, the Klingon Empire is comprised of many great and noble houses, whose lineage stretches back to the time of Kahless. Often viewed as a savage and barbarian race, the Klingon people are in fact a deeply mythical and honorable, one, although their desire for glorious battle is well founded.
As part of the Klingon Defense Force, the Planetary Regiments are equipped with a wide number of lethal arms, used to hold worlds in the name of the Klingon Empire, as well as seizing new ones. As a result, Klingon colony systems are based on an offensive structure, with many units enabling direct assaults on other colonies.
However, with its vast Imperial Navy and Defense Force consuming massive amounts of the global economy, the Empire is running desperately short on natural resources. The few sites still left to them - such as their primary mining operations on Praxis 12 are woefully short on supplies. The appearance of the worlds of the Tabula Rasa seem a gift straight from the hands of Kahless...
- Starting date of colonization: 8988.1
- First world encountered: Orsa system, Taal (desert and dust planet)
- First alien race encountered: Taubat, Hubrin
- Colony program: exploit all Tabula Rasa's dilithium deposits
- General characteristic: brutal conquerors, determined warriors
- General tactics: no specific tactic, recon of enemy base using scout then sending everything they have and when they sent everything, they send another (usualy heavier) units [Disruptor Batteries]
Taubat
The Taubat, are a race of religious fanatics created by the Metar to watch over them while they slept in stasis. When the Tabula Rasa spilled out into normal space, the Taubat were dragged along with it. They soon became afflicted with a deadly plague, and in desparation began reaching out for help.
- Capital world: HR.201 system, Mazikaan (the snow covered, icy planet)
- Interstellar flight: yes (primitive non-warp starships are in use)
- General characteristic: religious fanatics, superstisious, brave, but also very naive
- General tactics: no special tactics, throw everything they have at time in the blind faith (tanks and photon artilleries)
Unlike the Metar, the Taubat can be understood (or so the Federation thought). The Taubat people are a race created by the Metar - their masters. The Taubat's only duty is to maintain the Metar's stasis hibernation fields while the Metar are trapped in anomalous subspace. Metar power comes from the ambient energy of normal space, so they were forced to hibernate. But before they did, they created their servants.
The Taubat, unlike the Metar, do not use any powers from ambient energy, so they can live without it. The Taubat have settlements across a range of anomaly system planets, so they are capable of interstellar flight, non-warp flight to be more specific, because their ships technology is very, very early. Each Taubat colony contains a Temple, which, practicaly, is a primitive power generator of Metar's stasis fields. The Taubat regard the generation of power as a religious act, no doubt who is the target of their praises, but the Metar could not foresee an error in Taubat organisms. Each Taubat worker (or priest) working at Temple suffers from a deadly desease, which is caused by the Temple's inner radiation.
Taubat colonies operate under a loose commonwealth and their goverment is located on the icy planet of Mazikaan. Their ground forces are very weakly shielded and hulls are highly vulnerable. It is highly curious how an organic Metar could develop a race, which does not use organic material to construct buildings or vehicles (unlike Metar). Their ground forces consist of: typical phaser tank and artillery of photon torpedoes.
Taubat people are deeply superstisious and could be easily offended. Also, they are somehow very naive, but this virtue is compensated by their great courage (even if it is blind courage). Taubat beliefs concentrate around the Metar, but they also belive in the, closely unspecified, power and life (maybe the power of life?). The Federation tried to make the Taubat an ally. At one time they really were, but when the Federation tried to dicover how the Taubat came by their technology (they scanned Taubat's gods structures, including the Metar focal point - the colony core), the Metar awoke and the Taubat turned against their former allies.
Shortly after that, all hell was unleashed.....
Hubrin Brotherhood
Not much is known about the Hubrin Brotherhood, other than they are the Metar's greatest foe, and the ones responsible for initially sealing the Metar in phased space a millennia ago.
An ancient race, they stood against the Metar in the distant past and were almost wiped out because of it.
- Capital world: Unknown - Only 3 worlds are known as mainly habitated by the Hubrin: the windswept, forest, but pleasant world of Jagganath (unknown system), the red, dust planet of Orgolio (Jotunheim system), and the icy, snow covered planet Junil IV (unknown system)
- Population: The Hubrin are considered a borderline extinct race due to prolonged and exhausting war with the Metar
- Interstellar flight: unknown (teleportation at far range is in common use amongst them)
- General characteristic: proud, not-assuming, distinct, alien, spiritual, intellectualists, deadly warriors
- General tactics: quick, long range attacks, nearly constant motion
Not much is known about the race called the Hubrin. The Klingons first realized they are deadly opponents (and paid heavy price for it). Other powers (as well with the Klingons again) lost several staff members during the Hubrin incursion.
Later revelations showed that Hubrin 'enhanced' their abilities tenfold. Many thousand of years ago the Hubrin existed as as peaceful race of warriors and intellectuals. In their beginnings they created the Hubrin Brotherhood organization. Even though they lived in prosperity they never created something we could call an Empire, but that does not mean they weren't powerful.
Their technology consists of special powered green crystals, from which they construct everything they need. One of the Tabula Rasa's planet, the Lupercal Straits planet, contains the material and was used to construct the Hubrin Brotherhoods strongest buildings. The Hubrin appear to be outsiders to the Tabula Rasa, and first encountered the Metar when they expanded into it.
When the Hubrin first contacted the Metar they were also a peaceful race, and both agreed to a trade-agreement. But, it turned out to be a very short agreement. The Metar started their evolution and their logic and reason began to change, especially where the Hubrin were concerned. The Hubrin were worried by this change, but did not interfere, until the Mentar attacked the Hubrin colony on the planet of Durac and razed it to the ground. The Great War had started.
The war did not go well for the Hubrin. The Hubrin were losing badly, and with the last of their mineral resources they launched a last act of desperation and constructed the Anomaly Device. The Anomaly Device ripped the fabric of space and sealed the Metar and Hubrin together in the anomalous subspace void. The two enemies entered dormancy forever and the war was over.
Now, with the Romulan test bringing anomalous space back in line with our own, the Hubrin are waking up alongside the Metar. Initially hostile, Hubrin forces are extremely powerful compared to our own. They fire from great distances and one shot can deal with most of the vehicles, be it Federation, Klingon, Romulan, or Metar.
However, Hubrin forces in the Tabula Rasa seem to be spread thin, cut off, outnumbered and outgunned. Their only other viable force is their great Fortress, a massive star-shaped floating structure armed with three cannons on each star arm. It is a fortress, however it is not a manufacturing facility, as the Hubrin appear to be incapable of manufacturing additional vehicles while trapped in the Tabula Rasa. Instead, it functions as a teleportation stronghold, beaming in Hubrin from other colonies and planets to coninue the war against the Metar.
Metar
The Metar, are a race of of extremely powerful beings that draw energy and power from our corporeal universe. Almost nothing is known about them, however due to the Romulan subspace test, they have been freed from their long imposed prison and are re-emerging into a galaxy teeming with possibility.
Hostile, territorial, highly aggressive, and extremely powerful, the Metar represent a threat to the entire Alpha Quadrant that can not be ignored.
- Capital world: Cadimus Prime System, Cadimus II
- Interstellar flight: yes (organic starships, also used as their colony cores when on the planet's surface)
- General characteristic: brutish raw force, no mercy, nonlogical actions, organic, disguisting alien lifeforms, determined survivors
- General tactics: very quick and strong, long and short range attacks, swarming the enemy, generally - all possible tactics
The Metar are a race of extremely powerful beings that draw energy and power from our corporeal universe. The Metar uses organic material to create structures, vehicles and starships. Everything created by the Metar is considered alive, from the buildings to the starships. A fascinating and frightening combination. How they create this material in order to use it as a resource, is entirely unknown.
The name Metar does not belong to them, however. It's a shortcut of two names: Met and Are: Met-Are, named by the Federation. Every encounter with them ends in battle. Their goals seem to always be aligned with the destructon of everyting that is not them. We do not understand why this is, or what causes the Metar to act with such aggression.
The Metar orginate from the Tabula Rasa systems. It seems they were first to colonize these worlds, maybe they were even born there, so they treat any visitor as a potential threat. Their motives are unexplained (as everything related to them). Metar units are the peak of the art of biological evolution. They're fast, maneuverable, and fire devastating pure energy. They have an ability to adjust their bodyforms to the other kinds of weapons they encounter. During a single generation, the Metar will can morph into an opponent of frightening potency. They also have curious ability to temporarily create static in any scanning device (e.g. tricorder), which makes it much more difficult to track Metar biosigns. Only the death of the vehicle causing the interference will restore the scanner's previous functionality.
Many of you might think the Metar look exactly as their units do, but it's not true. You see, they are similar to Species 8472 first encountered in the Delta Quadrant. They are organic and they typically fuse organically with their equipment. Metar craft and spaceship show clear organic integration components, and are almost entirely organic in nature, however technical components do still exist.
Additionally, the Metar show signs of being a hive mind, or atleast telepathically linked. When one Metar comes under attack, all other Metar know the exact location of the aggressor. Despite being linked, there does appear to be a clear hierarchy established, with leaders of the Metar being called 'Metar Ras'. Metar warriors are birthed in giant underground chambers, which then swarm to the surface via their network of organic portals. Almost nothing is known about the Metar's reproduction cycle, how long it takes, how gestation happens, or even how many sexes there are.
The source of the Metar's unnatural power comes from ambient energy of normal space, space, which surrounds every normal planet. When that 'link' is severd, a Metar rapidly weakens and dies. During their initial war, the Hubrin Brotherhood severed that link for the entire Metar race. The Metar were forced to choose: to hibernate in stasis chambers in their underground hives or die. But someone had to maintain these fields and this is why they created the Taubat - genetic slaves, but not genetic copies of the Metar themselves.
Now, thanks to the Romulan expermiment, the Metar have been freed, and they are waking up. All signs point to them being ready to renew their conquest of the universe, and flex their long dormant power.
